Bornean orangutan (pongo pygmaeus)
Found in the forests of Indonesia, the Bornean Orangutan is considered one of the most intelligent species in the world. It has been listed as critically endangered by the IUNC due to illegal logging operations occurring it's habitat. Orangutan population estimation is often difficult to concur, but the most recent counts have shown that there are anywhere between 7,300 and 57,000 Bornean and Sumatran Orangutans living today, and the number is constantly decreasing as their habitat's are destroyed. There is no evidence of evolution due to this problem, however it can be predicted that the Orangutans may evolve to adapt to new habitats in order to repopulate.
